National Diploma in Hearing Therapy
The National Diploma in Hearing Therapy is a two-year training programme run by Life Unlimited that will prepare students for a career in aural rehabilitation.
It aims to provide the hearing sector with a specialised hearing therapy workforce focused on the application of aural rehabilitation practice, including technical knowledge and skill, in clinical and community settings.
Aural Rehabilitation: “any device, procedure, information, interaction, or therapy which lessens the communicative and psychosocial consequences of a hearing loss”. Mark Ross, JARA, 1997.
The purpose of aural rehabilitation (hearing therapy) is to assist people with hearing loss to communicate effectively so that they can maintain their independence, and to lessen the impact of hearing loss on their daily life.

On completion of Modules 1– 7, scholarship trainees who have met all assessment requirements are offered a position in the area for which they have applied.

The course fee is $2,970.00 (currently under review) per year. The fee covers training, tutorials and assessment marking.
Workplace assessment will incur additional costs to cover assessor travel, accommodation and meal costs.
Fee-paying trainees must work a minimum of 20 hours per week in an approved workplace providing aural rehabilitation services to clients.
Final selection for training will be by interview at applicant’s own cost. Locality for interview is normally Auckland.
