Life Unlimited is a charitable trust – a not for profit organisation governed by a board of trustees. Our responsibility is to people who access our services. Everything we do helps to create opportunities for people to make and be in control of their own life choices and enables people to live the life they choose. We aspire to everything we do being of high quality and of professional standard.
Many of our services are contracts with government departments with clear outcome and deliverables required, while we create other services and offerings to meet needs where we see a gap.
As well as income from our government contracts, and our retail sales, we also depend on donations and grants from charitable trusts and individuals.
The organisation began in 1979 as the Disabled Living Centre (Waikato) Trust Inc, and changed its operating name in 1997 to Life Unlimited to reflect the wider scope of services provided.
In June 2021, it merged with AccessAbility, another charitable trust, which provides Needs Assessment and Service Coordination (NASC) and Local Area Coordination (LAC) services in Otago, Southland, Whanganui, Taranaki, and Bay of Plenty through Ministry of Health and DHB contracts. It also owns Imagine Better a separate charitable company which provides research, training and advocacy on disability-related topics and issues, and Journey Together providing Local Area Co-ordination services in the Bay of Plenty/Lakes District.
“Life” means “Living Independence for Everyone”.
We strive to meet the cultural needs of people with disabilities, applying the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and Enabling Good Lives. We consider everyone an individual. We are responsible to the communities in which we live and work.
Life Unlimited’s kaumatua chose Te Ao Marama to reflect our commitment to collaborating with disabled people, whanau, hapu and iwi to create enlightenment within our communities.
