My Life My Way

My Life My Way is a collaboration of disabled people, their families, organisations and other community members from the Hutt Valley.

What we do

We work with the whole community – whomever that may be – to make the Hutt Valley more accessible and more inclusive for everyone.

We aim to make the Hutt Valley a place where people with disabilities live their lives well, and as they choose, within their community.

As a collective we support already established local initiatives improving the way these projects support disabled people and their families.

We are committed to action and we have three areas of focus:

  1. Information
  2. Design of Support
  3. Transport

Information

This working group is improving access to quality information to enable disabled people to make informed choices.

One example of this is local area coordinators who work alongside disabled people and their whānau in the Hutt Valley supporting their needs and aspirations.

Design of Support

This working group connects projects that enable disabled people and their families to design the support they need to be successful.

One example is our support of community providers to develop living solutions that are person-led and where the person decides where they live, who they live with and how they are supported.

Transport

This working group is helping to ensure disabled people can use transport to get anywhere, at anytime.

We are just beginning some work to supporting local transport providers who are interested in helping us solve these transportation problems.

How we make a difference

We know that a collective and community driven effort is necessary to achieve change.

We want to support projects and organisations to be coordinated and to work together to make the Hutt Valley more liveable for people with disabilities.
